The most socially acceptable form of addiction, Alcohol is synthesized from a chemical substance popularly known as ethanol.
The progressive increase in the consumption of alcohol has serious consequences on the body, severely damaging the functioning of liver and brain.
It has been medically proven that consumption of small amounts of alcohol is beneficial for some medical problems, but over-consumption is highly damaging for the body because human liver can process and digest 60 ml of alcohol in about one hour, and a normal addict consumes more than 4-5 times of the quantity that the liver can handle.
The life of an alcoholic revolves around thinking about alcohol, ways to obtain it, at what time to drink it, they even compromise on their basic expenses like food to save money to purchase alcohol. The types of alcohol found include whisky, gin, vodka, rum, beer, wine, scotch etc.

B S, age 42 has currently got no job, and is an alcoholic for last 20 years. Initially he started drinking in the company of friends and mostly on social gatherings. Gradually he started using on daily basis. He is suffering from severe memory problems and lives alone after his wife and children moved out of his residence, B S got increasingly violent and abusive after getting drunk every night and beat up his wife and two sons. His usual day starts with getting up and having a couple of beers, in the afternoon 3-4 pegs of vodka and his favourite time of the day is night, when he drinks until he passes out, it is usually a bottle every night. His hands shake terribly and it’s difficult for him to stay normal without alcohol in his body. His family is scared to even talk to him and due to his mental and physical condition.
